GORGEOUS THINGS #1.

I'd like to introduce a new regular segment dubbed Gorgeous Things, in which I'll be sharing with you an array of beautiful visuals and magnificent interiors - a dreamier version of my usual decor posts, if you will. Like a luxury-induced dream, filled with piles of lace and designer shoes, overlapping into worlds made of candy and roses, dotted with sea views and shimmering bottles of expensive champagne. Patsy & Edina would have an absolute field day! So get ready to be momentarily swept off your feet and taken to a world resembling something out of a Disney princess movie, but with way more hot baller shit thrown into the mix. Indulge!

AFTER HOURS WITH KARLIE KLOSS & TERRY RICHARDSON.

Ah, Terry Richardson. What can I even say about dude? There's no denying that he takes a good picture, he develops such personal relationships with his subjects that he's always evoking more out of them than your usual click-n-go photographer. That said, he's finally starting to play himself out in my eyes. Not so much in terms of his work, but it's more like his social life, heavily displayed on his blog Terry's Diary. In a nutshell, it's a social suckfest. And when you see the Hollywood scene through his unfazed eyes the whole thing seems kind of pathetically fake. Like, don't these people have lives? On the other hand, Karlie Kloss only gets better & better to me. When she first started modeling I couldn't really get down with her, I think it's just because she still seemed like such a young girl, but she's truly grown into one hell of a model. This photoshoot is a perfect marriage of Terry's NY sleaziness and her strikingly classic beauty. And she's got some serious stems on her!

PURE HAPPINESS.

Sorry about not posting anything yesterday you guys - but guess where I was all day? After months of trying to go, my bestie TYJK and I finally boarded the 9:30 am Port Authority bus to 6 Flags, and the rest is pure thrill-seeking, sore-throat history. It was the last Monday of the year that they'd be open due to the Holiday, so we totally went all out. Basically rode every ride - Kingda Ka was closed, sadly - and even hit Nitro & Batman twice. Those are my favorites anyway. Green Hortnet was sick, you do it standing up! Wow, this is beginning to sound really sexual. But regardless, we lived out of summer fantasies at last, and now even though I've got a terribly raspy throat, I feel totally fulfilled. Oh, and there were zombie people everywhere since it's Fright Fest! Gosh, I love theme parks. The only thing I don't love is the $5 water, so broke right now...

HARD KNOCK DILLZ.

I can't believe it's already Friday evening! And I especially can't believe that it's fucking October. Crazy! Still no idea of what I'm dressing as for Halloween, chances are that I'll just come up with something half-assed the night before anyway! Going out for some drinks with my homegirl tonight, you should do the same. In case you don't, here are some Dillz to keep you company...

MOST OFFICIAL REVIEWS: LIGHTHOUSE BROOKLYN!

It's been a super long time since I did any Most Official Reviews on here, but I've found myself going out a little more than usual with my man lately, and a lot of hype places in Williamsburg suck. The problem is that all the trendy spots get cocky too quickly, and the food and service all go to shit. Just last night we went to Brooklyn's "legendary" Diner for what I assumed would be a classically on-point meal regardless of the wack staff, but we didn't even get far enough to eat. They're undergoing renovations and the outside looks like complete shit, but that does't change the fact that a cuntish waiter told us it'd be "about 30 minutes for a table" behind a snide grin. Well at least offer me a seat at the bar, you little shit. We walked away, naturally, only to be disappointed again up the street at Fatty Cue. We planned on getting a bunch of 'small plates', but at $10 bucks each we kind of lost our pep. One little plate of lamb and 2 cocktails later, we were out $60 and still starving.

That's why I really have to give it up for my peoples at Lighthouse BK, who've been doing shit the proper way since they opened up back in March. It's co-owned by brother/sister duo Assaf & Naama Tamir along with Chef Nick Cox, who formerly headed the kitchen at Downtown's infamous La Esquina - and the trio work there collectively every night (except Monday!) to create their perfectly cozy atmosphere. Tucked nicely away from the craze of the surrounding neighborhood, the restaurant is literally at the corner of Borinquen Place and Keap, situated in an awesome triangular space lined with immense windows. During the summertime they open all of them up to let in a nice cross breeze, though it's amazing on rainy, stormy nights too; but regardless, let's get on with the fare, whichis a delicious mix of seasonal local foods with a Mediterranean touch. All items on the menu are affordable and fairly priced while still generously proportioned - filling up your belly without breaking your wallet. Oh, and Assaf makes some mean cocktails behind the bar, a few of which I'm sharing in the photos below as well. Bon apetit!

THE COVETEUR UPDATES: DOONAN, DEBORAH, EMESE, & GEORGE.

So now that the weather is finally starting to change for the colder, it's really time for me to get my apartment in order. In the last months I've at least managed to keep the place semi-clean on a regular basis, but I'm at a point with my boyfriend where if promises don't get kept, I'm getting real bitchy about it. Like he's been swearing that we'd get a new couch and table for months, but everytime I bring it up, it's always "tomorrow" or "next week". This sounds harsh, but sometimes I can't help but wonder what things would be like if I was living all by my lonesome. I'd have it so tricked out - all my time could be spent making the place to my liking, without his negativity or heaps of dirty skate shoes getting in my way. Hm, someone is sure sounding bitter. But shit, it's been over 2 years since we've lived in this spot and we still don't even have a fucking dinner table to show for it! Our meals are eaten the same way every night - on the couch, hunched over the coffee table he whipped together out of old planks. It could be worse, but it could definitely be better too. Sure, I could go out and make the decisions by myself, but when you live with someone, the point is to do things as a team. If I start making my own moves, even when it comes to design, pretty soon I'll be wanting to call my own shots on everything. Oy, I'm getting myself worked up now! Let's decompress with a little update from my favorite source of interior inspiration, The Coveteur. Someday you guys, someday...

YO-YO, WHAT'S GOOD HAROLD OWENS III?

I never got good at the whole yo-yo thing, my hand coordination skills can be a bit off when it comes to things like that. Maybe that's why I always saw yo-yoing as something dorks did, like an extended version of hacky sack. But a few days ago I peeped this video from the 2011 U.S National Yo-Yo Contest (wtf?) featuring the moves of young Harold Owens III and damn - I'm kind of turned on by yo-yoing now! His fly technique paired with the classic MIA jam are a perfect little combination. Work, Harold!

VERUCA'S WORLD: COUNTRY GALS.

Well, I wasn't bullshitting in that last post - I was craving homemade chili so bad that I left all my work and ran out the house to Key Food to get ingredients. I prepped in record time and there's currently a big pot getting nice on the shove, if it turns out dope I'll definitely post a recipe. I absolutely can't wait till Thanksgiving time when my fan & I will be up in the Catskills, eating and smoking trees all day long. There's no doubt that I'm a city girl at the end of the day, but deep down I've got a super soft spot for the country - it's like being in a Disney movie or some shit. If I lived out there I'd easily be the baddest bitch in the woods, towing camouflage rifles, rabbit fur vests, Chanel boots, and all sorts of woodland critters, naturally. Like a weed-smoking Snow White of sorts! Woodsy gals, this Veruca's List is for y'all!

MAD HUNGRY.

Ever have one of those days where you wake up and instantly crave some kind of elaborate meal? That's totally happening to me today, with chili con carne over white rice. It's probably the change of weather since I usually find myself desiring things like ice cream and cake, but regardless that spicy ground beef calls to me. I could order it from some shitty delivery spot and be disappointed, but instead I've decided to venture out to the store and make it myself the proper way - simmering away in a huge pot on the stove, filling my apartment with that amazing meaty aroma! And as if I wasn't jonesing enough, mid-chili fantasy I stumbled upon the incredibly hyper-realist paintings of Tjalf Sparnaay, whose often food-based pieces are causing my tummy to grumble even more. Seriously, that meat & potatoes looks slamming!
