MIXED MEDIA MARVELS BY DAN-AH KIM.

I spent a good amount of time checking out mixed media artist Dan-Ah Kim's site today, there's something about her work that really takes me back to childhood. I can't remember the name of the author or illustrator, but when I was a kid I was absolutely in love with this picture book set in India, filled with ornate little tigers and palaces, and something about it really reminds me of Kims work. There's a childhood tenderness mixed with mythical sadness in her pieces, a combination which I can really resonate with. Plus, so much more work goes into each one than it looks - it's a whole process, layering different materials, creating different textures and dimensions, pasting on those delicate little flowers. And the titles are great. Check out my favorites below...

CUTE MOMENTS WITH ELLEN D & NICKI MINAJ.
Geez, the ladies over at Jezebel sure have no shortage of squee-worthy videos to share with us, I'm still totally obsessing over preciouas Lily & her Disney surprise from last week. However this newest favorite starring Nicki Minaj and two of her littlest, biggest fans is right up there on the cuteness meter, and it actually made me momentarily see Nicki in a whole other light. I generally don't care much for her, but c'mon, who wouldn't melt in the presence that adorable chubby-faced kid? Plus lil' homegirl is killing it with the vocals. Prepare to spaz out...

THE COVETEUR UPDATES: MONICA, NICOLE, RACHEL, & SYLVIA.

Today was one of those rare mornings where I woke up and immediately felt like dolling myself up. I'm usually the type who likes to spend as little time in front of the mirror as possible - as long as I've got my moisturizer and mascara on, I'm good. But sometimes I look at all the pretty makeup and products going to waste in the beauty cabinet, and it bums me out. Once again, I think it's because the state of my bathroom is generally in such disarray. It's like when your closet is so completely disastrous that you can't find anything to wear. No matter how much interior inspiration I'm subjected too, I'm still stuck when it comes to my own place of dwelling. Over the weekend I had the displeasure of watching Sex & The City 2 - self induced torture, if you will - and naturally, Carrie's house is like some shit out of a dream. Her closet? I know it's just a movie, but some broads are really living that lavishly. Kinda like the ladies featured on The Coveteur week after week. Lucky bitches...

VERUCA'S WORLD: KEEP IT SIMPLE.

After seeing all the insanely beautiful - and some wildly ugly - creations from the collective fashion weeks in the last month, the mere thought of patterned clothing is enough to give me a headache right now. So many prints and pastels and wild colors, which is all fine & dandy in the seasonless world of Modeland, but out here in NY it's about to be winter! That's why I've decided to make this weeks Veruca's List all about simple pieces - no crazed fabrics or textures, no pops of bling or neon, just the kinds of pieces you could always add to an already solid collection of staples; budget not considered, of course. I may have a Versace bitch somewhere deep inside me, but at the end of the day I'll always be the Less is More girl...at least in some realms of life.

SPIKE JONZE & OLYMPIA LE-TAN PRESENT: MOURIR AUPRES DE TOI.
After just watching this magnificent short created in collaboration by the amazing Spike Jonze & designer Olympia Le-Tan, a wave of romantic crassness has completely washed over me. I honestly don't even know where to begin - it's such an original, adorable, awesome piece of work that it warms my heart to think people can still create simple things that pack such impact. It's a love/lust story of sorts, an ideal mix of Spike's childish realness and Olympia's incredible embroidered book clutches, though I don't know if it's exactly kid-friendly. Check it out, you're gonna wish you were a felt skeleton by the time it's over!

DILLZ WORLD! PARTY TIME! EXCELLENT!
Perfect rainy evening to spend at home eating my boos homemade Bolognese, catching up on the Rachel Zoe Project, and blowing trees as I pet my pup. I'd pick that over going out any day! Enjoy the weekend, your thirty weekly companions await...

NAS - NASTY.
The video for Nas' Nasty directed by Jason Goldwatch just came out a few days ago, and I was immediately feeling it, which I can't say for many rap videos these days. It's got the glitz and flashiness that a rap video needs, but with that Nas Queens rawness that we really crave. Well done fellas!

TAM TAM'S SPRING READY-TO-WEAR 2012 FAVORITES: THE EUROPEAN SHOWS.
A few weeks ago I did an extensive post on all my favorite pieces from the start of the Spring RTW 12 shows, which overlapped a little bit from NY into London and Milan. Now that all the Euro shows are finally over, I can share with you those favorites as well, and let me just say that it's an entirely different animal. Not to be biased because I was birthed in Europe, but the level of showmanship out there is completely next level. I feel like the NY shows are all about darkness and simplicity and being jaded, whereas in Milan and Paris they literally put on fashion plays, where there are immense sets and the models are dressed to play a role. I love it! To me, that's what fashion is really all about. Fun, wonder, excitement, magic! Of course I respect the more wearable collections too, but when it comes to runway I want fireworks and cartwheels. When reading the reviews for McQueens show, orchestrated by the amazing Sarah Burton, someone described it as "unbearable beauty" and it stuck with me throughout the day; It's so magnificent that you hardly feel worthy enough to look at it. Luckily, I looked at it all for you and picked out the best ones. Shall we?

MISS DILLZ CHERIE: RIDING IN CARS WITH GIRLS, PT. 2 (NSFW)

I still haven't gone out and seen Drive, but I've been getting different reviews from everyone I talk to! All that really matters is Gosling, obviously, but I also read something online today where a woman is apparently suing the movie (only in America!) because the trailer indicated way more driving than what's actually in the movie. Oddly enough, that was my Dads same critique. I'll probably just wait till it comes out on DVD, movies are always better with homemade snacks and pot. Until then, here's round two of MISS DILLZ CHERIE: RIDING IN CARS WITH GIRLS. Amazing how many of these flicks I've gathered over time, here's the first batch if ya missed it!
