The moment I laid my eyes on Mari Kanstad Johnsens dreamy creations, something deep inside me from childhood just clicked. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there's a certain youthfulness to her work that really hits a nostalgic chord. The mix of blurry colors and hues paired with her innocent-looking little animals and characters is simply beautiful to me. Absolutely perfect for a little kids wall...or mine!

A few days ago one of my friends said that sometimes she'd rather just be a dude, and I can really understand that. I pretty much felt that way my whole adolescence, especially since it took a while for me to come into my own and lose that childlike awkwardness. Puberty, periods, the agony of your mom not letting you shave your legs, etc. But the older I get and more womanly I become, the less those thoughts pop into my head. Being a female is just so magical. Not that some men can't share the same feelings and emotions, but generally speaking we see and enjoy the more beautiful side of life. And the best part is that the most amazing things about us are the least suspecting - all our feminine little mannerisms, like pouty-lipped bathroom routines and flustered attempts to get dressed for a night out, down to the way we paint our nails or eat a piece of fruit. To a man, all that shit can be absolutely hypnotic, and I truly love that about us.

It's been a slow, dragged-out Monday so far - I spent most of the morning at an accountants office sorting out some past tax shit and now I've got a groggy January headache. These winter days just make me want to hibernate with pastry all day long. Good thing I picked up a mini fruit tart on my way back from the city - and good thing I've got a brand new crop of Dillz to go along with it. Yum!

Merde alors! I've got the Paris blues. Try as I might to get re-adjusted to NY living, I still find myself yearning for those grey streets and French nuances. There was a time during my stubborn American adolescence that I claimed to be sick of Europe and found Paris depressing, but I was just a stupid kid then. The older I get, the more I want to embrace that side of my life and culture. Ever since I got back Saturday, all I can think about is thick-cut ham with cornichon, the hot chocolate pudding from Angelina, and all the lingerie shops I didn't get to go to. As a youngin I certainly did my share of defacing literature and magazine covers - sometimes a bubbly model or proud politician simply beg for a pencil-scratch beard and Sharpie stitches! That said, I never thought to take the boredom-driven hobby to the next level like artist Andrea Mary Marshall, whose made-over Vogue covers are simple yet awesomely executed. Her genius retouches banish banal headlines like '5 New Ways to Keep Your Guy Happy' and replace them with hilarious bits such as 'I Want What She Got And How To Get It' and 'Scaring Him Away, Begging Him Back' with fabulous illustrations to match. Makes me wish I could cancel my subscription for Vogue and just get VAGUE instead!
